New Delhi, Oct 15: Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the urgent need for a global digital framework with clear dos and don’ts for the ethical use of technology during the inauguration of the International Telecommunication Union – WTSA and the India Mobile Congress on Tuesday.
Drawing parallels with the aviation industry, where a comprehensive regulatory framework exists, he stated that similar rules and regulations are essential for the digital landscape. Modi called on global institutions to collaborate on establishing these guidelines.
Highlighting the importance of ethical AI, he underscored that security, dignity, and equity must be central to technology’s deployment.
Regarding India’s advancements, the Prime Minister noted that after a swift rollout, 5G telecom services are now widely accessible, with work on 6G already underway. He provided impressive statistics, stating that India has transitioned from being an importer to an exporter of mobile phones over the past decade and has constructed an optic fiber network that stretches eight times the distance between the Earth and the Moon.
Modi outlined India’s digital vision, which has been built on four key pillars: making devices affordable, ensuring connectivity reaches all corners, providing affordable data, and promoting a digital-first approach. He remarked, “We have made digital connectivity an effective tool for last-mile delivery.”
He also expressed India’s readiness to share its successful experiences in building digital public infrastructure with the global community.
