Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday celebrated the 11th anniversary of the ‘Make in India’ initiative, noting its significant contribution to augmenting the Indian economy and propelling the nation towards self-reliance, also known as Aatmanirbharta.
In a message shared on X, PM Modi expressed, “It is gladdening to see how 11 Years Of Make In India has contributed to furthering economic strength and laying the foundation for Aatmanirbharta. It has encouraged innovation and job creation across sectors.”
Launched on this day in 2014, the ‘Make in India’ initiative aimed to stimulate national growth and harness India’s entrepreneurial spirit. PM Modi emphasized, “Make in India has given an impetus to India’s entrepreneurs, thus creating a global impact.”
During the Uttar Pradesh International Trade Show 2025, PM Modi called for a significant boost in indigenous production across various industries. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to support stakeholders in their endeavors, stating, “As we look to the future, India must prioritize becoming a ‘Swadeshi’ economy.”
Highlighting the government’s efforts, PM Modi elaborated on initiatives to enhance the ease of doing business in India by eliminating red tape. “We want everything from chip to ship to be manufactured in India; we have abolished over 40,000 compliances and decriminalized more than a thousand laws,” he said, pledging ongoing support to businesses and traders present at the event.
As the nation commemorates ‘Make in India’, Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal praised the initiative’s accomplishments, particularly in fostering indigenous defence production. Goyal outlined the transformation of India’s defence manufacturing landscape, stating, “The world is a witness to India’s defence manufacturing strength today! Guided by the vision of PM Modi, the nation has scripted landmark achievements in indigenous defence production.”
This milestone comes alongside the successful launch of the Intermediate Range Agni-Prime Missile, which defence agencies executed today using a rail-based mobile launcher system. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh commended the efforts of those involved, celebrating this as another testament to the success of the ‘Make in India’ initiative.
The ‘Make in India’ initiative continues to play a vital role in driving the nation’s economic narrative, positioning India as a global manufacturing hub and fostering innovation through self-reliance, thus enhancing its competitive edge across various sectors.
