Police on Monday seized over one kilogram of charas and arrested two alleged drug peddlers in separate operations conducted in Shopian and Budgam districts of Jammu and Kashmir. The police operations mark a decisive effort to combat drug trafficking in the region.
In Shopian, the police acted on specific intelligence. Police Station Zainapora registered FIR No. 77/2025 under the NDPS Act and subsequently obtained a search warrant from the Chief Judicial Magistrate’s court.
A team led by the Station House Officer (SHO), along with the Executive Magistrate 1st Class, raided the residence of Gh. Mohammad Sheikh, son of Sanaullah Sheikh, located in Humhuna Nagbal. The authorities seized one kilogram of a substance resembling charas, as well as a grinder machine allegedly used to process contraband.
“During the search operation, the accused was found absconding, prompting further efforts to apprehend him,” police stated.
In a separate incident, a police team from Police Post Wachi conducted a routine checkpoint at Naghard Wachi. Here, they intercepted a suspect, Imtiyaz Ahmad Sheikh, son of Gh. Hassan Sheikh of Pombia Kulgam, who possessed 101 grams of charas-like substance.
This led to the registration of another case, FIR No. 78/2025 under the NDPS Act, at Police Station Zainapora, where further investigations are now underway.
In Budgam, police continued their fight against drug-related crime during a routine naka checking at Checkpora Kralpora. Authorities apprehended Moomin Qadir Dhobi, son of Gh. Qadir Dhobi from Dharambugh Kralpora, who was found with 112 grams of charas-like substance.
A case, FIR No. 173/2025 under the NDPS Act, has been registered at Police Station Chadoora, and the investigation is ongoing.
Police spokespersons emphasized the importance of these operations as part of a larger campaign to eradicate drug peddling, which has raised significant concerns within local communities. The authorities urge citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities that may indicate drug trafficking.
