Shimla Tragedy: Two Killed, Three Injured as Car Plunges into Gorge

Shimla, Jul 24: A tragic accident in Rohru Sub-Division of Shimla district has claimed two lives and left three others injured after their car veered off the Summerkot-Sungri link road and plunged into a 200-meter-deep gorge on Tuesday night.

The victims, identified as Lucky Sharma (25) from Bhojpur village in Bilaspur district and Ishant (23) from Navgao village in Arki, Solan district, were en route from Rohru to Shimla when the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle, causing it to skid off the road.

According to local police officials, three passengers—Bharat, Pankaj, and Rakesh—sustained injuries and are currently receiving treatment at Civil Hospital, Rohru.

Superintendent of Police (SP), Shimla, Sanjeev Kumar Gandhi confirmed that the bodies of the deceased will undergo postmortem examinations before being handed over to their respective families.

A case has been registered under sections 281 (rash driving), 125(a) (causing hurt by rash and negligent act), and 106(1) (causing death by rash or negligent act) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Investigations into the incident are ongoing.

The tragic incident has highlighted the dangers of driving on hilly roads, urging caution and adherence to traffic regulations to prevent such accidents in the future.
