External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met with Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong in Tokyo on Monday, just before the Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting. They discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations between India and Australia, focusing on security, trade, and education, and enhancing cooperation across the Indo-Pacific region.
In a post on X, Jaishankar highlighted the discussions, saying, “A great start this morning meeting Australian FM @SenatorWong in Tokyo. We talked about intensifying our bilateral ties and deepening our practical cooperation across the Indo-Pacific. Looking forward to continuing these discussions at the Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting shortly.”
Earlier, on Sunday, Jaishankar also met with U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken in Tokyo. They reaffirmed their commitment to a free, open, and prosperous Indo-Pacific. The two leaders explored opportunities for closer collaboration between India and the U.S. and discussed regional and global issues, including the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
The Quad, consisting of Australia, India, Japan, and the United States, aims to support an open, stable, and prosperous Indo-Pacific region.
