NEW DELHI: Akash M Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Jio Infocomm, emphasized the urgent need for India to adopt artificial intelligence (AI) through a comprehensive strategy focused on maximum “Atmanirbhar” (self-reliant) initiatives. He made a compelling case for ensuring that Indian data is stored in the country’s own data centres during the inauguration of IMC and ITUWTSA 2024.
Ambani called on the government to accelerate the revision of the Data Centre Policy 2020 draft, advocating for regulations that mandate Indian data to reside within India’s borders. He noted, “The scale and speed of multilingual data generation in India will drive the AI revolution, and we request the government to expedite the updating of the 2020 draft to ensure that Indian data remains in India’s data centres.”
He described AI as a transformative tool with the potential to revolutionize various sectors, including healthcare, education, agriculture, and manufacturing. To support this initiative, Ambani urged that Indian companies looking to establish AI and machine learning data centres receive essential incentives, including those related to power consumption.
