Bhalla Critiques BJP’s Neglect of Tourist Circuit in Jammu

Jammu’s working president of JKPCC, Raman Bhalla, expressed concern over the deteriorating condition of the pilgrim-tourist circuit, including Bagh-e-Bahu and the Herbal Garden, during an inspection on September 25.

Accompanied by former ministers Yogesh Sawhney and Yash Pal Kundal, Bhalla highlighted the neglect of essential road connectivity in the region. He specifically blamed the BJP-led government for failing to maintain a vital project that the Congress party completed prior to 2014.

Bhalla drew attention to the deplorable state of the roadway connecting Balidaan Stambh, Har ki Poudi, Harbal Garden, and Shahbad Colony. He described the circuit as a shadow of its former self, suffering significant damage due to recent rains and floods.

“The BJP-led dispensations have utterly neglected this pilgrim-tourist circuit over the past eleven years, resulting in its current shambles,” Bhalla stated. He demanded immediate repairs and renovations to restore the area’s tourism potential.

During the visit, Bhalla criticized the government for its failure to conduct regular maintenance and upgrades, which ultimately led to the circuit’s deterioration. He asserted that the authorities at the helm have neglected their duties toward pilgrims, tourists, and local residents alike.

“The BJP has consistently failed Jammu, breaking its promises regarding beautification and the promotion of pilgrim tourism,” Bhalla remarked, emphasizing that the party’s claims of development have been exposed by the recent environmental crises affecting the city.

Other prominent Congress leaders accompanying Bhalla included Diwan Chand, Latish Sharma, Mangat Ram, Dinesh Dadwal, Sahil Shavotra, Kundan Dalotra, Arun Dadwal, Sanjeev Kattal, and Bittu Shavotra. Together, they expressed grave concerns about the future of tourism in Jammu if remedial actions are not taken swiftly.

The tourist circuit is pivotal for Jammu’s economy and cultural heritage, drawing numerous visitors to its historical sites. Activists and local stakeholders have begun voicing their grievances, demanding not just repairs but also a reassessment of long-term strategies to enhance the circuit’s appeal and functionality.

“We cannot allow this beautiful region to continue falling into disrepair. Our government must act now to preserve these irreplaceable resources,” Bhalla concluded, urging stronger local governance and accountability.

As the state continues to grapple with infrastructural challenges, the attention shifts back to the responsibilities held by the current administration. Tourism remains a vital economic driver for Jammu, and the neglect of these circuits raises urgent questions about priorities in governance.
