The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has strongly responded to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi‘s allegations regarding the suppression of voter names in Karnataka. The confrontation highlights tensions between the two major political parties in India.
The BJP has accused Gandhi of attempting to undermine the democratic process by voicing unsubstantiated claims about voter suppression. This follows Gandhi’s assertion that over 6,000 names were deleted from voter registries in the Aland Assembly constituency.
Claims of Voter Removal
On Thursday, Gandhi targeted Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, stating he protected those responsible for alleged voter suppression. In contrast, BJP leaders contend that Gandhi’s cries of injustice stem from a lack of public support for him and his party.
Ravi Shankar Prasad, former Union minister and current BJP MP, stated, “Rahul Gandhi is systematically trying to weaken India’s democracy. Why? Because the public doesn’t vote for him.” This assertion aligns with the BJP’s ongoing challenges against Gandhi’s credibility.
BJP Defends 2024 Election Integrity
In a defiant response, Prasad highlighted Gandhi’s claims as a pattern of undermining past elections. He stated that Gandhi labeled the 2014, 2019, and upcoming 2024 elections as fraudulent, attributing this behavior to his declining popularity.
“All of them have won by rigging the votes. Rahul Gandhi, please stop abusing the democratic choice of the voters of India,” Prasad admonished Gandhi, urging a focus on facts rather than unfounded accusations.

Prasad pointed out inconsistencies in Gandhi’s narrative. “What Rahul Gandhi has spoken about is the 2023 election. In that election, the Congress party had emerged victorious,” he noted, criticizing Gandhi for shifting blame while his party held power.
Prasad further clarified that the Chief Election Commissioner in question, Gyanesh Kumar, did not hold his position during the 2023 Karnataka Assembly Election, painting Gandhi’s targeting as misleading and motivated by desperation.

“How many lies will he tell? How much will he distort facts?” Prasad asked, reflecting on the struggles of the Congress party under Gandhi’s leadership. He asserted that Gandhi’s approach diminishes the credibility of India’s democratic institutions.
