On the 25th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh paid profound tributes to the armed forces personnel who displayed extraordinary bravery and resilience under harsh conditions during the Kargil War in 1999.
In a post on social media platform X, Singh highlighted the exceptional courage and commitment of the soldiers who fought in the conflict, which culminated in the successful completion of ‘Operation Vijay’ on July 26, 1999. The battle, fought on the icy heights of Kargil in Ladakh, lasted nearly three months and was pivotal in securing India’s victory over Pakistan.
“Today, we remember the indomitable spirit and courage of the brave soldiers who fought valiantly in the 1999 war,” Singh stated. “Their unwavering commitment, valor, and patriotism ensured that our country remained safe and secure. Their service and sacrifice will continue to inspire every Indian and future generations.”
The Chief of Defence Staff, Gen Anil Chauhan, along with all ranks of the armed forces, also paid homage to the “Bravehearts” of the Kargil War. “We draw inspiration from the heroes of Kargil, and we will continue to honor their legacy by defending our nation with courage, honor, and sacrifice,” the Integrated Defence Staff headquarters remarked.
To mark the occasion, various events were held across the country, including at the Kargil War Memorial in Dras. Over 500 soldiers made the supreme sacrifice during the conflict, a fact that was solemnly remembered in ceremonies nationwide.
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar also honored the soldiers, stating, “On Kargil Vijay Diwas, we salute the valor and dedication of our brave soldiers. The legacy of their courage and patriotism acts as a guiding light for all Indians.”
The observance of Kargil Vijay Diwas not only commemorates the military success but also serves as a reminder of the enduring spirit and sacrifice of those who fought to defend the nation.
