Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh emphasized today that the newly established “Shri Mata Vaishno Devi” Assembly constituency embodies the “holy faith” that he claims the Congress party has neglected for decades.
Speaking at several BJP public meetings in the Bhomag area, which encompasses the revered shrine and Katra town, Dr. Singh criticized previous governments for ignoring the genuine demands of the local populace, particularly the “Baridars,” the traditional priest families who have raised concerns since the enactment of the Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Act in 1986.
Dr. Singh noted that it was only after Prime Minister Narendra Modi took office in 2014 that Katra and the holy shrine began receiving the attention they deserved. He recalled that Modi launched his national campaign from the Vaishno Devi Shrine in 2013, and shortly after becoming Prime Minister, he inaugurated the Katra Railway Station as part of his commitment to the region.
Under the current administration, Katra has been recognized as one of the top ten iconic locations in the country and included in the National PRASAD (Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual Augmentation Drive) Scheme for dedicated funding. Dr. Singh pointed out that significant improvements in connectivity, through PMGSY and centrally funded roads, have enhanced travel and increased pilgrim visits.
He praised the advancements made at the Holy Shrine, including the introduction of modern facilities for devotees. The minister also highlighted the upcoming completion of the Katra-Delhi Expressway and the introduction of two Vande Bharat trains to the Katra Railway Station, enabling easier access for pilgrims.
Dr. Singh commended DDC Chairman Sarv Singh Naag for his dedication and effective governance. He expressed confidence that following the election of Baldev Raj Sharma as the BJP MLA on October 8, there would be enhanced coordination among local governance, ensuring that the benefits of central initiatives are effectively realized in the region.
Overall, Dr. Singh’s address underscored the BJP’s commitment to advancing the interests of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi constituency, positioning it as a focal point for development and faith in the region.
