Five Injured in Vehicle Collision Near Zojila Pass

At least five persons sustained injuries in a vehicle collision near the Zojila Pass on Monday, prompting a swift response from local authorities to ensure the injured received timely medical care.

The accident occurred when two vehicles collided on the treacherous stretch of road leading to the popular Zojila Pass, a crucial link between Ladakh and Kashmir. Emergency response teams acted quickly to evacuate the injured to nearby medical facilities.

Officials reported that the injured individuals were transported to the Primary Health Centre (PHC) in Sonamarg, where they underwent initial treatment. Subsequently, they were referred to the Srinagar-based SKIMS Soura for more advanced care.

The individuals injured in the incident include Manzoor Hussain, son of Sadiq Ali Balti; Shabir Hussain, son of Hussain Ali Balti; Sadiqa Bano, wife of Manzoor Hussain Balti; Masrat Zara, daughter of Manzoor Hussain; and Fareeda Bano, daughter of Moad Hussain—all residents of Kargil.

Authorities have confirmed taking cognizance of the incident. Police have initiated an investigation to ascertain the cause of the accident at Zojila Pass, renowned for its hazardous driving conditions.

Such accidents often underline the urgent need for better road safety measures, particularly in high-altitude areas like Zojila Pass. Local bodies are expected to discuss strategies to enhance safety protocols and prevent similar incidents in the future.

In recent years, the traffic near Zojila Pass has surged, attributed to increased tourism and trade activities, which heightens the critical need for vigilant driving practices in this region.
