Inter Zonal District Level Athletics Meet for AAG Girls Kicks Off

The Inter Zonal District Level Athletics Competition for All Age Group (AAG) Girls commenced today at the University of Jammu. The event is organized by the Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS), District Jammu and draws participation from local schools across the region.

On the opening day, around 300 girl athletes from both government and private institutions showcased impressive athletic skills in various track and field events. The competition not only highlighted their strength and speed but also emphasized the spirit of unity and sportsmanship.

In the fiercely contested discus throw events, the U-19 gold medal went to Sweety Devi of Zone Marh, with Konika Chib from Zone RS Pura securing silver and Renu from Zone Bishnah taking home the bronze. The U-17 category saw Nidhi Verma from Zone Satwari win gold, followed by Kiran Kumari from Zone Bhalwal and Nirjala from Zone Bishnah. Likewise, the U-14 title was clinched by Subhana from Zone Satwari, with Sonakshi of Zone Miran Sahib and Mansi of Zone Akhnoor finishing second and third.

The 100m races offered thrilling moments with Damanpreet from Zone Bishnah taking gold in the U-14 category. Nishta Sharma from Zone Jammu ruled the U-17 category, while Shivani, also from Zone Jammu, topped the U-19 race.

In the long-distance events, Sahiba Choudhary of Zone Dansal won the 400m race in the U-14 category. Nishta Sharma continued her dominance by winning the same event in the U-17 category.

When it came to the 300m race, Mehak from Zone Jammu secured gold in the U-19 category, while Sonia Choudhary from Zone Dansal triumphed in U-17.

The high jump events showcased remarkable talent, with Shriya Bhagat of Zone Chowki Choura winning gold in the U-14 category, Rohika Devi claiming the U-17 title, and Payal Kumari from Zone Chowki Choura winning gold in the U-19 category.

DYSSO Jammu and technical officials, including Nirmal Singh, Chamel Singh, Sarabjeet Singh, Vijay Sharma, and Harsimran Singh, presented medals to the top performers. They applauded the winners and encouraged all participants to embody the principles of dedication, discipline, team spirit, and sportsmanship throughout the tournament.

This competition not only celebrates athletic excellence but also promotes empowerment and leadership among girls in sports. With further events slated in the coming days, the Inter Zonal District Level Athletics Meet aims to inspire the next generation of female athletes.
