SRINAGAR, Oct 30: The Minister for Jal Shakti Department, Javed Ahmad Rana, announced that a comprehensive policy for the regularization of daily-wagers is currently under consideration. This declaration came in response to a question posed by Legislator Dr. Sajjad Shafi during a session of the Legislative Assembly.
The backdrop to this policy change arises from significant staff shortages within the department. Minister Rana explained that these shortages stem from the retirement of various field employees. He pointed out that the PHE Sub-Division Uri currently has 125 Assistant Linemen, with only eight lineman posts remaining unfilled.
While acknowledging the staffing challenges, Minister Rana emphasized the commitment to ensure a consistent water supply for residents. To address immediate needs, the department has made interim arrangements. These include the internal deployment of existing manpower, which encompasses regular employees and daily-wagers.
“Our goal is to maintain the operation and upkeep of Water Supply Schemes (WSS),” Rana stated. “Until we can fill the vacant positions through formal recruitment or promotion, we will ensure that water services remain undisrupted.” He reassured constituents that the department will prioritize their water supply needs as it works through staff adjustments.
