Kupwara DC Flags Off Beneficiaries for Sheep Rearing Training

Kupwara, September 22: Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, Shrikant Suse (IAS), today flagged off a group of beneficiaries from the DC Office Complex Kupwara for an exposure-cum-training visit to the Government Sheep Breeding Farm, Poshnar, Rajwar Kupwara. This initiative, organized by the Department of Sheep Husbandry under the SEWA PARV initiative, aims to equip local breeders with modern sheep rearing techniques.

The program emphasizes the potential of livestock in rural livelihoods. During the event, DC Suse appreciated the department’s efforts, stating that it empowers local breeders and enhances income generation opportunities. “Livestock holds immense potential for livelihood generation and income enhancement, particularly in rural areas,” he noted.

District Sheep Husbandry Officer, Dr Ishrat, explained that the exposure program aims to provide beneficiaries with hands-on training and practical demonstrations on scientific sheep rearing, flock management, breeding practices, and animal healthcare. He emphasized that such initiatives help farmers adopt improved management practices, raise productivity, and ensure better animal welfare.

Technical experts from the department will conduct interactive sessions at the farm, offering beneficiaries the chance to gain firsthand knowledge of the modern techniques that drive the sheep husbandry sector. These methods promise to ensure higher returns and sustainable growth in the industry. The visit will also showcase innovative practices that participants can replicate at the grassroots level for better results.

This initiative aligns with the department’s ongoing commitment to uplift the socio-economic condition of sheep rearers in the district. It promotes self-reliance through livestock-based entrepreneurship while bolstering the rural economy in Kupwara.

By providing such exposure and practical training, the initiative aims to transform the sheep husbandry landscape in the region, paving the way for a sustainable future for local farmers. This exposure-cum-training visit not only represents a step towards closing the knowledge gap but also fosters community engagement in farming as a viable livelihood.

The successful implementation of this program could lead to improved living standards for families dependent on sheep husbandry. As these beneficiaries learn new techniques, they stand to benefit economically, fulfilling the larger goal of enhancing rural livelihoods.
