Indian sports administrator Nita Ambani has been unanimously re-elected as a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) during the 142nd IOC session held recently. This comes ahead of the Paris Olympics, marking a significant moment for India’s presence in global sports.
Ambani’s re-election was achieved with a resounding 100% of the vote, underscoring the trust and confidence placed in her by the IOC members. Expressing her gratitude, Ambani stated, “I am deeply honoured to be re-elected as a member of the International Olympic Committee. I would like to thank President Thomas Bach and all my colleagues in the IOC for their faith and trust in me.”
Reflecting on the broader implications of her re-election, Ambani emphasized, “This re-election is not just a personal milestone but also a recognition of India’s growing influence in the global sporting arena. I share this moment of joy and pride with every Indian and look forward to continuing our efforts to strengthen the Olympic Movement in India and around the world.”
Nita Ambani, who first joined the IOC in 2016 during the Rio Olympic Games, holds the distinction of being India’s first woman member of the prestigious body. Her tenure has been marked by significant contributions to promoting India’s sporting ambitions and enhancing the country’s Olympic vision.
Under her leadership as founder and chairperson of the Reliance Foundation, Ambani has spearheaded initiatives across sports, education, health, art, and culture, aimed at empowering millions of Indians. Notably, she facilitated the hosting of the first IOC session in Mumbai in 40 years in October 2023.
As part of Reliance Foundation’s ongoing partnership with the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), India House has been established at the Paris Olympics. Serving as a “home away from home” for athletes, India House will be a platform to celebrate victories and showcase India’s journey in the Olympic arena to the world.
The establishment of India House reflects India’s aspirations to emerge as a formidable global sports entity, aiming for enhanced success at the Olympics and setting sights on hosting future editions of the Games.
