Punjab Governor Lays Foundation Stone for Sant Namdev Ji Yatri Niwas in Ghoman Village

In a significant development aimed at enhancing pilgrim facilities, Punjab Governor and Administrator of UT Chandigarh, Banwari Lal Purohit, laid the foundation stone for the “Sant Namdev Ji Yatri Niwas” at Ghoman village in Gurdaspur district. The initiative is dedicated to the memory of Shiromani Bhagat Namdev Ji, a revered saint known for his contributions to Sikhism and Bhakti movement.

Governor Banwari Lal Purohit allocated a grant of Rs 1 crore from his discretionary fund towards the construction of the Yatri Niwas. The facility, once completed, will comprise 10 rooms, 1 hall, and 1 kitchen, aiming to accommodate devotees visiting the sacred site from across the country.

Bhagat Namdev Ji, renowned for his spiritual teachings and devotional poetry, traveled extensively across India, initially from Maharashtra and ultimately settling in Punjab. Ghoman village and nearby Bhattiwal village were significant locations where Bhagat Namdev Ji spent a substantial part of his life, culminating in his enlightenment in the year 1350.

The sepulchre of Bhagat Namdev Ji in Ghoman village remains a place of pilgrimage, attracting devotees from around the globe who come to pay their respects and seek spiritual solace.

“The establishment of Sant Namdev Ji Yatri Niwas underscores our commitment to providing adequate facilities for devotees visiting this historic pilgrimage site,” remarked Governor Banwari Lal Purohit during the foundation stone laying ceremony.

The project holds cultural and religious significance, reflecting Punjab’s rich heritage and its embrace of spiritual diversity. It is expected to further bolster tourism and pilgrimage to Ghoman village, celebrating the profound legacy of Bhagat Namdev Ji.

Construction of the Yatri Niwas is anticipated to commence shortly, with authorities aiming for its completion within a stipulated timeframe to benefit pilgrims and visitors alike.
