Lt Governor Manoj Sinha paid homage to the brave soldiers of the Kargil War during his radio program ‘Awaam Ki Awaaz’, dedicating this month’s edition to their valor and sacrifice as India approaches the 25th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas on July 26.
In his address, Sinha recounted the heroic acts of soldiers like Major Ajay Singh Jasrotia and Lance-Naik Ghulam Mohammed Khan, highlighting their bravery and ultimate sacrifice in securing India’s victory over Pakistani forces in 1999.
“Kargil Vijay Diwas is a testament to magnificent heroism, indomitable courage, and supreme sacrifice of our brave soldiers. Their bravery will forever live on in our hearts and inspire us,” Sinha stated.
He also acknowledged the contributions of various individuals towards promoting literature on war heroes, pledging necessary interventions to support their initiatives.
Reflecting on women empowerment initiatives in Jammu and Kashmir, Sinha emphasized the removal of discriminatory laws and the active participation of women in economic empowerment under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership.
“Laws discriminating against women have been abolished, and women are playing a significant role in the economic progress of Jammu and Kashmir,” he affirmed.
During the program, Sinha shared inspiring stories of women achievers like Kounsar Jan, Srinagar’s first female e-rickshaw driver, and entrepreneurs like Anita Devi from Rajouri and Rubina Bano from Pulwama, who are reshaping their communities through entrepreneurial endeavors.
He also commended Shahida Khaliq from Kupwara for her dedication as a librarian and highlighted the efforts of youth initiatives like the Keegam Youth Trust in Shopian, which has transformed community engagement through initiatives like Swachh Abhiyan.
Furthermore, Sinha praised individuals like Sandeep Singh Chib for nurturing young boxers and Shariq Yasir for his promising career in sports, underscoring their contributions to youth empowerment in the region.
The Lt Governor concluded by acknowledging the valuable suggestions received from various community leaders and activists aimed at enhancing waste management practices, promoting digital activism, and empowering women in rural areas.
As India prepares to celebrate Kargil Vijay Diwas, Sinha’s tribute and focus on empowering communities underscored the spirit of resilience and progress in Jammu and Kashmir.
