Srinagar Records Coldest Night This Winter at -2.1°C

Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, experienced the coldest night of the winter season as temperatures dipped to a chilling -2.1°C, according to the Meteorological (MeT) Department. This sharp decline in temperature marks a significant onset of winter conditions in the region.

In addition to Srinagar, Pahalgam recorded the lowest temperature in the Kashmir Valley with the mercury falling to -3.8°C. Such conditions highlight the increasingly severe winters in this picturesque region.

Director of MeT, Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad, stated that no wet spell is predicted over the next week. Furthermore, night temperatures are expected to stay steady until at least November 17, with a slight chance of improvement in temperatures for a brief period thereafter.

The freezing temperatures have caused the formation of frost in various areas of Srinagar and the Valley during the early morning hours. Residents and visitors alike have begun to feel the chill more acutely, as they prepare for the harsher winter months ahead.

The extreme weather patterns are consistent with recent climatic trends affecting the region, leading to greater cold spells. As winter progresses, it is essential for communities to adapt to the evolving temperatures and protect vulnerable local populations.
