Udhampur: Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh emphasized today that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has completely transformed Udhampur, elevating it to one of the top districts in India.
Speaking at a BJP public rally in Udhampur, Dr. Jitendra Singh highlighted the significant improvements in the region’s infrastructure and development over the last few years.
“For the past 3-4 years, Udhampur has consistently been rated among the top three districts in the country for rural road construction under the Central PMGSY (Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana). This is a complete transformation for a region once infamous for its poor road connectivity,” Dr. Singh said.
Dramatic Improvement in Road Connectivity
Dr. Singh remarked on the “sea-change” that has occurred in Udhampur, stating that the region, once known for its “Dhakkis” (steep climbing paths) and muddy tracks, has now seen modern infrastructure development.
“People had to trek long distances through hills, but today, thanks to PM Modi’s efforts, the region has witnessed miraculous growth,” he added.
Decades of Neglect by Previous Governments
Dr. Singh criticized the previous Congress and National Conference governments, accusing them of neglecting Udhampur for nearly six decades.
“Udhampur was discriminated against because it was a stronghold of Bharatiya Jan Sangh and BJP, which were not part of their vote bank,” he claimed.
However, since 2014, the region has undergone a complete turnaround with unprecedented levels of development.
Major Developments in Udhampur
Dr. Singh noted that Udhampur has become one of the only Lok Sabha constituencies in the country to have received three centrally funded Medical Colleges, including one in Udhampur city itself.
“In addition to Medical Colleges, the region now boasts a series of Degree Colleges and educational institutions,” Dr. Singh stated.
Economic and Healthcare Growth
Under the “One District One Product” scheme, the traditional food recipe “Kalari” from Udhampur was highlighted, even making it into Prime Minister Modi’s address during the Lok Sabha election.
Dr. Singh also emphasized that Udhampur was the first district in Jammu & Kashmir to achieve full saturation in the distribution of Ayushman Bharat Health Cards, ensuring healthcare coverage for its residents.
Appeal to Support BJP in Assembly Elections
Dr. Singh urged the people of Udhampur to support BJP candidates in the upcoming Assembly elections, emphasizing that having BJP representatives would enable the Central Government’s benefits to reach the grassroots level more effectively.
“Modi has given this region top priority, and by voting for BJP candidates, the people of Udhampur can ensure faster and more robust development for their area,” he said.
He expressed confidence that the people of Udhampur were ready to join Prime Minister Modi’s development journey, with hopes of achieving “double-engine growth” in the region.
