Vande Bharat Train Extended from Jammu to Srinagar Soon

The Indian Railways has confirmed plans to extend the Vande Bharat train service from Jammu to Srinagar. This service will enhance regional connectivity, making travel more convenient for locals and tourists alike.

Divisional Railway Manager Jammu, Vivek Kumar, announced that preparations are in motion to facilitate this critical expansion. The transition will involve the semi-high-speed Vande Bharat Express originating from Jammu, a move aimed at reducing journey times between the Valley and the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine in Katra.

Kumar elucidated that the progress of the extension faced delays due to significant damage to railway tracks caused by recent flooding and incessant rainfall. He assured reporters that restoration efforts are progressing rapidly.

“We are working on it. The delay occurred because of massive damage to tracks due to floods and heavy rains. But sooner or later, this service will be available to the people of Jammu,” Kumar stated, highlighting the importance of safety clearances before launching the service.

The Katra–Srinagar Vande Bharat service, introduced earlier this year, has already seen a positive response, significantly cutting down travel time for many commuters. The upcoming extension to Jammu is expected to bolster this success and improve connectivity.

Once the Jammu–Srinagar Vande Bharat service becomes operational, officials anticipate it will run daily, offering an enhanced travel experience compared to existing rail and road alternatives.

Such initiatives reflect the Indian government’s commitment to improving infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir, fostering economic growth, and attracting more tourists to the scenic region.

Tourism and pilgrimage are vital for the economy of Jammu and Kashmir, and this new train service will cater to the increasing demand for efficient travel options. With the launch of this service, the Railways aims not just to improve connectivity, but also promote socio-economic development.
