Vishwakarma Day was celebrated with great zeal and religious fervour across Jammu today. Technical workers, artisans, and industrial employees offered prayers to Lord Vishwakarma, the divine architect of the universe, seeking blessings for success, safety, and prosperity in their professions.
As is traditional, many workers observed a ‘no-work’ day, dedicating time to clean, service, and worship their essential tools and machinery. According to popular belief, these rituals protect workers from accidents and foster greater prosperity in industries and organizations. Vishwakarma Day is observed the day after Diwali each year.
The festivities commenced at the Vishwakarma Sabha Temple Complex, Bakshi Nagar, Jammu, where a Hawan was performed alongside special prayers invoking the blessings of Lord Vishwakarma. The event, organized by the Vishwakarma Sabha, attracted several dignitaries, including Member of Parliament Jugal Kishore Sharma, J&K BJP President Sat Sharma (CA), and MLA Jammu West Arvind Gupta.
Dignitaries at the event praised Lord Vishwakarma, calling him the ‘divine engineer’ and a source of inspiration for craftsmen and workers involved in building and designing. They emphasized the vital role technical workers play in nation-building, encouraging unity and welfare within the Vishwakarma community.
This well-conducted programme unfolded under the careful leadership of Kuljeet Rai (Chairman, Vishwakarma Sabha) and other officials such as Vijay Kumar (Vice Chairman) and Rattan Lal Changotra.
Simultaneously, celebrations at Vishwakarma Temple, New Plots, Jammu included a Hawan and Bhajan Kirtan under the guidance of Mohinder Lal (President of the Temple Committee).
During the ceremonies, Mohinder Lal voiced a longstanding demand to officially recognize Vishwakarma Day as a Gazetted Holiday. He asserted that, “each worker already observes an undeclared holiday on this day.” Fellow supporter Ramesh Angotra urged the Government to acknowledge the cultural and industrial significance of the day by making it an official public holiday.
To conclude the celebrations, a Langer (community feast) was organized for all devotees. This initiative was made possible by teamwork from Rattan Lal, Joginder Angotra, Pappu Virdhi, Vishal Angotra, Kunal Angotra, and Jitender Jajua.
