RAMBAN, JULY 08: Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Gool, Imtiaz, chaired a vital Sub-Division Level Disaster Management and Coordination Meeting today. The gathering aimed to review disaster preparedness for natural hazards such as floods, landslides, and cloudbursts prevalent in the region.
The meeting brought together key officials including Tehsildar Harjeet Singh, SDPO Kuldeep Raj, and various department heads from Health, Police, and other line departments. Their collective goal was to strengthen inter-departmental coordination to develop effective relief measures in case of emergencies.
The agenda outlined a detailed review of the existing disaster management plan. The SDM examined the availability of essential resources, including manpower and machinery, as well as the readiness of control rooms and communication systems in the sub-division.
The SDM urged all departments to remain on high alert with the onset of the monsoon season. He emphasized the need for constant monitoring of vulnerable areas that are prone to landslides and flash floods, stating, “Proactive measures and seamless coordination among all departments are essential to address any emergency situation.”
Specific instructions followed for various departments. The Jal Shakti, PWD, and PMGSY were tasked with identifying vulnerable areas and preparing restoration teams for immediate deployment. Meanwhile, the Health department was directed to ensure the availability of medicines, ambulances, and qualified medical staff at the Community Health Centre (CHC) Gool and Primary Health Centres (PHCs).
Furthermore, the Food Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA) department must maintain a buffer stock of rations. The Power Development Department (PDD) was asked to provide arrangements for backup power supply to minimize disruption during disasters.
To maintain community engagement, the SDM directed Tehsildars and Naib Tehsildars to conduct regular inspections in disaster-prone regions. They also need to update lists of vulnerable areas and raise awareness among locals about safety protocols during disasters.
Collaboration with law enforcement was crucial, as the police and 23 RR were instructed to assist with rescue and evacuation operations. Representatives from Beacon were tasked with ensuring timely restoration of roads in instances of blockades due to natural calamities.
The SDM reiterated the administration’s commitment to safety, stating, “The safety of lives and property is our top priority.” He acknowledged that effective coordination, timely responses, and public cooperation can significantly reduce the adverse effects of disasters.
Preparedness levels have reached new heights in Gool as officials coordinate efforts to ensure that the community remains vigilant and safe amidst unpredictable weather conditions. The administration has committed to deploying all necessary resources to respond efficiently and effectively to any situation that may arise during the monsoon season.
